It depends on the texture of your hair. If your hair is thin and straight I would do a bob cut or A-line cut like this

but if its curly/wavy/frizzy then don't cut it too short. Instead, do some layers and have the hairdresser thin your hair out a bit with a razor so it lays nicer and is easier to work with.
